Some of my first projects...

My first big project was painting a bench (which I did not take any before photos of) and a china cabinet (which I remembered after I started disassembling it) that I had in my kitchen and hallway. The china cabinet before was cluttered with my stemware, 3 place settings of my china, and a bunch of different glasses/pitchers...was not pleasing to the eye. I used some white dishes that I had to simplify things (in fact I got the dishes free when I was a server back in the day at California Pizza Kitchen) and used some other white accessories that I had. I am not sure how I like the green apples in the middle-I do want some pop of color in there so for now it will work. I have since added some silver knobs that are really chic. I used Liquid Sander and a quart size of black paint which miraculously lasted for both projects...I do still need to add a coat of poly/sealer especially with a 3 year old, 7 month old, and 2 dogs!

The pillows I recovered from a remnant at JoAnn's costing me $3.50 which were a great deal-they aren't perfect-I used Heat and Bond because sewing is not something I have tried yet-though I might be getting a machine one of these days.

The topiary's are a knock off of Pottery Barn's which sell for a whopping $59 a piece. I got the flowers on sale at Michael's-it was the item of the week for $1 a bunch-so it cost me
about $7 for the whole thing-used 4 inch styrofoam balls, sticks from the yard, and painted some flower pots I had.

Welcome

My mother must be proud--I have never been one that has had the gift of being what you call "Domestic." Crafts have never been my thing-all the way through grade school, high school, and college when I was in one of my many majors of elementary education I called on others (specifically my mother) to help me with any sort of art project. Home projects up until this point has been something that I haven't delved into but I have been inspired by so many wonderful blogs and tutorials that I thought I might document my journey into domestic living-crafts, decorating, refurbishing, and maybe a few recipes along the way.
